BIOGRAPHY
Since 1995, Koen Wilmaers has been a professor at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp. As section leader, he teaches Percussion and Marimba: Percussion, Chamber Music, Repertoire, Literature and Practical Musicianship. Additionally he guides young percussionists of De!Kunsthumaniora in their switch to higher education and teaches youngsters in part-time music education at ART Tienen. From 1993 to 2008 he combined teaching with playing as Solo Timpanist at the Flanders Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (today the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra).
Today, he performs as a musician and is active as a Soloist Timpani with the internationally renowned orchestra ‘Le Concert Olympique’. The orchestra consists of a group of 45 selected musicians from all over Europe and plays in residence in ‘Die Philharmonie’ in Berlin. In a chamber music context you can currently see him at work across Flanders with Carlo Willems and the piano duo Eliane Rodrigues and Nina Smeets in the production The Bernstein & Gershwin Connection.
